ABOUT FREEMASONRY

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations.
The roots of Freemasonry trace back to the medieval stonemasons who built the great cathedrals and castles of the past. Their traditions live on today, teaching self-discovery through a series of symbolic ceremonies. Members are expected to uphold strong moral values and are encouraged to speak openly about their experiences in Freemasonry.
For many of us, being a Freemason is a very fulfilling hobby — an opportunity to have fun, share experiences, and involve our families in something meaningful.
What Freemasonry means can vary from person to person. For some, it’s a great way to meet new people and enjoy a busy social calendar. For others, it’s about giving back — supporting worthy causes and making a difference in the local community.
By becoming a Freemason, you'd be joining a global network of more than 200,000 members across England, Wales, and beyond. Our members are incredibly diverse, coming from all walks of life, professions, and backgrounds.
Like any club, how much time you give is entirely up to you. Some members are deeply involved; others take part only occasionally. It’s all about what works for you — your comfort level, your interests, and the time you want to commit.
